Box.net OpenBox Developer Documentation

This documentation describes OpenBox, a way to enable your applications to integrate with Box.net. By configuring your application as an OpenBox Service, Box.net users can easily use their Box.net files with your application or service.

Please note that we are continually editing and improving this documentation. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave comments or contact us at developers@box.net. Thanks!

OpenBox Actions

An OpenBox Action allows you to create a web application that integrates within the Box.net interface. Box.net users can add your OpenBox Service to their Box.net account and use your service to manipulate their Box.net files. See some examples of existing Box.net services.

The pages below should help get you started with creating a service that uses OpenBox Actions.

  • User Experience - A complete overview of the OpenBox user experience. Begin here to get a good understanding of OpenBox.
  • Request Workflow - A developer-centric view of the OpenBox experience.
  • OpenBox Services - Create and configure your OpenBox service.
  • OpenBox Actions - Define the things your OpenBox service can do.
    • Box Parameters - Use parameters in prompts or callbacks to provide Box.net Services with the information they need.
    • Client Callback URL - Details on this special case for popup actions.

External API

For developers of desktop applications that integrate with Box.net and web applications that will use Box.net features while starting outside of Box.net, or for developers who use OpenBox Actions but want to use more advanced features of our service, Box.net provides an API for external access. The pages below should get you started with using our API.

For details regarding the functions provided for our API, please refer to the list of functions on your right.
